Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 July 2026

This policy explains what Cinevol collects, why we collect it, and the control you have over it. We keep the list short on purpose.

What we collect

When you create an account we store your first name, last name and email address. If you sign up with Google, Apple, Facebook or LinkedIn, we receive your name and email from that provider and nothing else. As you use Cinevol we store what you choose to create: watchlists, ratings, reviews, discussion posts, questions, viewing history, and your optional genre and interest preferences. If you request profile verification we store the evidence you submit for review.

Passwords

We never see your password in a readable form. It is hashed by our authentication provider, Supabase. When you sign up we check your password against known breach databases using k-anonymity: your browser sends only the first five characters of a hash, never the password itself. If you sign up with a social provider, we hold no password for you at all.

Why we collect it

To run your account, show you your watchlist and history, attribute your reviews and posts, personalize recommendations if you opt in, verify profile ownership claims, and keep the platform free of spam and abuse.

Email

We send account email: verification, password resets and security notices. These are necessary and cannot be turned off while you have an account. Marketing email, which covers news, film recommendations and community updates, is optional, off by default, and you can turn it off at any time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information and we do not show ads. Your data sits with our infrastructure providers: Supabase, which hosts our database and authentication in Mumbai, and Cloudflare, which serves the site. Films play through YouTube’s embedded player, and YouTube applies its own policies when you watch. Public information such as cast biographies and photographs is fetched from Wikipedia and Wikidata by your browser.

What is public

Your display name and anything you post publicly, meaning reviews, discussion posts and questions, is visible to others. Your email address, watchlist and viewing history are not.

Your control

You can edit your profile and preferences at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account and its data by writing to joseph@cinevol.com. We will action deletion requests promptly.

Cookies

We use cookies and local storage for one purpose: keeping you signed in and remembering your theme and cached lookups. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
